The Practice Nurse is available at Arnside on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Appointments for the Nurse can be made at reception or by telephone.
Her work includes dressings, suture removal, adult immunisations, holiday vaccinations, ear syringing, blood tests, including anticoagulation testing, performance of cervical smears, blood pressure checks, Asthma and COPD checks and general nursing procedures.
Family planning services are available and the doctors are happy to provide advice during their usual surgeries.
Throughout pregnancy it is important to be seen regularly to ensure both mother and baby are progressing well, so arrange to see the doctor as soon as you suspect you are pregnant and bring a morning sample of urine. Full ante-natal services are provided by a community midwife and doctors but deliveries are usually conducted in Kendal or Lancaster Hospitals.
Children should have Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus, Polio, HIB, Pneumococcal (PCV), Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) and Meningitis C vaccinations . You will normally be notified when these are due. Special vaccinations e.g. typhoid, yellow fever, hepatitis, meningitis may be required for certain occupations or foreign travel. Our practice nurse or doctors will be pleased to advise or administer these.
Examinations to check on your child's development are performed in the surgery and also at the health visitor's clinic. Please contact the health visitor or doctor for this
These are advised every three to five years depending on age. You will be recalled automatically when your smear is due and advised to contact the surgery to make an appointment with the practice nurse. Please contact the surgery if you have not had this test within the recommended time.
Medical care for registered and temporarily registered patients is covered by the NHS. However, for certificates, reports, medical examinations for driving and sports, certain vaccines and services to overseas visitors (from countries without reciprocal arrangements) a reasonable fee may be chargeable. Details are available at the reception desk. If travelling abroad you are strongly advised to take out medical insurance.
Please call between 11am and 3.30pm to enquire about your test results as our reception staff will have more time to deal with your request between these times.
Note that the practice has a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection and we will only release test results to the person to whom they relate unless that person has given prior permission for the release of this data or they are not capable of understanding the results.
When you take your test you will be told how long it will be before the results are returned to the practice.
It is your responsibility to check your results and to make an appointment to discuss them with your doctor if your are advised to do so.
