The Practice Nurse
The Practice Nurse is available at Arnside on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Appointments for the Nurse can be made at reception or by telephone.
Her work includes dressings, suture removal, adult immunisations, holiday vaccinations, ear syringing, blood tests, including anticoagulation testing, performance of cervical smears, blood pressure checks, Asthma and COPD checks and general nursing procedures.
Family planning services are available and the doctors are happy to provide advice during their usual surgeries.
Throughout pregnancy it is important to be seen regularly to ensure both mother and baby are progressing well, so arrange to see the doctor as soon as you suspect you are pregnant and bring a morning sample of urine. Full ante-natal services are provided by a community midwife and doctors but deliveries are usually conducted in Kendal or Lancaster Hospitals.
Children should have Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus, Polio, HIB, Pneumococcal (PCV), Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) and Meningitis C vaccinations . You will normally be notified when these are due. Special vaccinations e.g. typhoid, yellow fever, hepatitis, meningitis may be required for certain occupations or foreign travel. Our practice nurse or doctors will be pleased to advise or administer these.
